Geothermal energy in Lusatia: discover opportunities and risks for the future!

On November 7th, 2025, everything related to geothermal energy will meet in Spremberg! At 5:00 p.m., an exciting discussion will start in the Spreekino, Am Markt 5, which will deal with the potential and challenges of geothermal energy as a promising energy source. Organized by various institutions, including the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space and rbb24 Inforadio, the event will be important not only locally but also regionally.

Participants can expect an interesting discussion moderated by Harald Asel. Prominent representatives sit on the podium: Christine Herntier, the mayor of Spremberg, and two experts from academic institutions, Prof. Dr. Mario Ragwitz from the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy (IEG) and Prof. Dr. Felix Müsgens from the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus–Senftenberg (BTU). All interested parties are warmly invited. Admission is free, but registration via the website of the Spremberg office is recommended.

The opportunities of geothermal energy

Geothermal energy has the potential to play an important role in future energy supplies. However, not every place has the same access to this energy source, which presents a particular challenge compared to renewable energies such as wind and solar. The theme of the event also includes the scientific research of this technology as well as the entrepreneurial strategies for transformation in Lusatia, an area that has special needs and requests from the population.

Particular emphasis is placed on the concerns and interests of citizens, who play an important role in this process. The exchange between science, politics and civil society is crucial in order to exploit the full potential of geothermal energy. The discussion will also address the risks associated with the use of geothermal energy and how these can be addressed.

Information about the event

A highlight of the evening will be the recording of the discussion, which will later be broadcast in the “Forum” series. This not only gives those present the opportunity to discuss the topic, but also offers numerous other interested parties the chance to find out about the results.

For further information, particularly on research projects in the field of geothermal energy in Lusatia, it is worth taking a look at the website of the Heizwende Lausitz at Lausitz heat transition.

Take the opportunity to become part of this important discussion and register in time! The dialogue about future energy supply is an issue that affects us all. Together we can set the course for a sustainable future.
