Topping-out ceremony for the Schönwalde primary school: construction progress inspires citizens!

A happy day in Wandlitz: On November 5, 2025, the community celebrated the topping-out ceremony of the new Schönwalde elementary school, just four months after the foundation stone was laid. Mayor Oliver Borchert and numerous citizens came together to appreciate the progress of the construction work and take a look at the future premises. The primary school is scheduled to be completed in the 2027/2028 school year, with space for around 540 students. The total investment in the project is around 37 million euros, which includes the construction costs for the school building, the sports hall and the outdoor facilities.

Sustainable school construction

What does this mean for the environment? This construction project focuses on sustainability. The school will be equipped with a modern, energy-efficient heating solution based on geothermal energy. A climate-friendly wooden facade, greenery on the roof and a photovoltaic system round off the environmentally conscious concept. The construction method is based on the criteria of the Sustainable Building Rating System (BNB), with silver certification being the aim. All of this is supported by comprehensive funding from KfW amounting to 2.5 million euros, which will be used to implement the environmentally friendly school concept.

What's next? The interior work is now on the agenda, followed by the exterior facilities. The majority of the trades have already been outsourced to specialist companies, which should speed up implementation. During the tour of the construction site before the topping-out ceremony, many citizens were interested in the progress. With an appealing school concept and modern equipment, the Schönwalde primary school will not only meet current needs, but will also support future generations.
