Rediscover Uckermark: Exciting book presentation delights guests!

Not only is the air in the Uckermark fresh, the intellectual atmosphere is also enlivened with new publications. On November 3, 2025, the book presentation of the 82nd volume of the “Landscapes in Germany” series took place in the plenary hall of the Uckermark district, which specifically deals with the northern Uckermark around Prenzlau. Over 150 guests, including prominent scientists such as Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Knölker and Prof. Dr. Judith Miggelbrink belonged, were present and were interested in the exciting content that this new volume offers.

What makes this new volume so special? In over 430 pages and with more than 200 illustrations and five maps, not only historical roots but also current developments in the region are illuminated. The authors, 25 in total, have set themselves the goal of presenting the Uckermark in both a clear and informative way. The region is not only viewed as a geographical area, but also issues such as population development, climate change and the effects of land reform. This is how people speak with their stories, sagas and legends from the pages of the book.

Excursions and digital elements

Particularly noteworthy are the innovative digital elements of the work. QR codes and web links in the chapters enable readers to access further information and explore the region interactively. The excursions offered vary in length between 10 and 22 kilometers and offer an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of the Uckermark up close.

During the presentation, Deputy District Administrator Frank Bretsch emphasized the great importance of the Uckermark and the new release for a broader public. “The book helps us to better understand the cultural heritage and special characteristics of our homeland,” Bretsch continued.

A look into the past and future

The region has changed significantly since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The new volume shows a variety of transformations that are reflected in sustainable developments, such as the expansion of renewable energies. The collaboration between natural scientists and humanities scholars as well as regional authors helps ensure that the latest findings are incorporated into the book series. The exciting topics in the volume invite readers to reflect on their own relationship to the Uckermark and make new discoveries.

Now that the world is moving ever faster, the new volume remains indispensable as a reference work and excursion guide to better understand the roots and changes in the Uckermark. The edition is 2,000 copies and will probably be sold out soon, as the aforementioned importance and the great information content make the work a real treasure for the region.

For interested citizens, this publication is a clear sign that regional identity and science can go hand in hand. [Nordkurier] reports that the “Landscapes in Germany” have been continued since 2000 in cooperation between the Leibniz Institute for Regional Studies and the Saxon Academy of Sciences in order to promote understanding of “cultural landscapes”. So there is a positive outlook for the coming years.

Such projects in particular show how important it is to document and celebrate the history and present of a region. And who knows – perhaps the next editions of “Landscapes in Germany” will contain further exciting insights into the Uckermark and beyond.
