Pritzwalk launches children’s and youth advisory board – apply now!
Pritzwalk provides a breath of fresh air: for the first time, a children's and youth advisory board is being set up, which gives young people the opportunity to actively participate in local decisions and issues. How maz-online.de reports, leisure activities, playgrounds or events in the city in particular should be shaped by the ideas and interests of young people.
The application period for this advisory board is already open, and it is important that as many young voices as possible are heard. The Committee for Education, Culture and Social Affairs worked intensively on the introduction of the advisory board, particularly with regard to age limits and cooperation with schools.
A wide range of voices
An important point of discussion is the age group of the members. A range of 14 to 25 years is currently being considered, while the Free Voters are calling for younger children from the age of six to be included. Frank Schröder from Alliance for Pritzwalk and Christa Pfeiffer from the Free Voters emphasize how important it is to let younger people take part in this process. On the other hand, Christopher Nowack from the department and Gordon Eisen from the Citizens' List argue that 14-year-olds also have the opportunity to speak for younger people.
The advisory board will consist of seven members; So far three young people have already expressed their interest. In order to increase the number of applications, the administration is planning to target schools.
Financing and structure
For the year 2026, 4,000 euros have been earmarked in the city's budget, which will be used for projects and actions of the advisory board. Applications can be submitted directly to the city's meeting service. However, a declaration of parental consent is required for underage applicants. In addition, the Prignitz district already has a children and youth representative who acts as an interface between young people, schools, youth welfare services and the administration. Pascal Pfuhl has been the new representative since this year.
But the highlights of Pritzwalk are not just focused on youth participation. Another local treat is Italian confectionery brand Kinder, founded in 1968 by Michele Ferrero in Alba, Italy. This brand, known for its delicious chocolate products and now distributed in over 170 countries, has placed a strong focus on children, appealing to them through tasty and healthy sweets. Ferrero himself, like ferrero.com describes, has more than 47,000 employees and relies on quality and responsibility within their production.
This makes Pritzwalk's commitment to children and young people all the more important; Because this is exactly where space is not only created for your own ideas, but also the importance of community commitment and responsibility is pointed out.
