Future of 140 jobs in Hennigsdorf: Alstom-V negotiations are ongoing!

A fateful month for Hennigsdorf: November 2025 could be groundbreaking for the Alstom company location. As the MAZ reports, intensive discussions are currently underway between the works council and management about the future of the plant. This is about potentially securing 120 to 140 jobs, the situation of which is currently still uncertain.

As a first step, there will be two important meetings with the representatives of the works council and IG Metall in Berlin on November 20th. Works council head Heiko Engelmann is demanding a clear statement from the company about capacity utilization from mid-2027. “Why should a decision now be made as to whether jobs will be cut?” asks Engelmann, aiming at the uncertainties that are weighing on the plant.

Order situation and investment plans

On the other hand, the current order situation in Hennigsdorf looks quite positive. The order books are full and there will be excess capacity until at least 2027. Current projects include vehicles for the Stockholm Metro as well as the “Zefiro Express” X80 and the SJ250 high-speed project. New additions include maintenance of locomotives and modernization of trains, which offer additional options.

In order to further strengthen the location, Alstom is planning investments of up to 40 million euros. The plan is to build a new paint shop and expand the track infrastructure. From 2028, new halls could even be built. Such measures could develop the factory location in Hennigsdorf into a key location for digitalization and service.

Uncertain future of the S-Bahn contract

It is crucial for the workforce to receive a reliable perspective. The works council is relying on support from the federal government, which is planning a special fund of 500 billion euros for infrastructure modernization. A positive signal for the location could also come from the political side.

In conclusion, Alstom in Hennigsdorf is walking a fine line between investment and uncertainty. The coming weeks will show whether the works council's negotiations bear positive fruit. The industry is not only crucial for the economic future, but also for environmentally friendly mobility, which Alstom has put at the top of the agenda with its mission. The company has set itself the goal of developing innovative solutions that both reduce the ecological footprint and improve the passenger experience - an approach that remains highly popular and will be pursued even more in the future, such as Alstom website emphasized.
