Turbine Potsdam defends title at NOFV championship superiorly!

Last weekend, June 14th and 15th, 2025, the NOFV club championship for C-juniors was held in Bitterfeld-Wolfen on the grounds of SG Rot-Weiß Thalheim. The U15 juniors from Turbine Potsdam showed an impressive performance and were able to defend their title from last year. With a record of five wins, twelve goals scored and no goals conceded, they impressively underlined their dominance in the Northeast German Football Association.

Things got off to a good start on the first day of the tournament. In the first game against Hertha BSC Berlin, the young talents managed to win through a standard situation. This was followed by a furious 6-0 win against 1. FC Magdeburg, which impressively demonstrated the team's offensive strength. The first day ended with a 3-0 win against 1. FC Neubrandenburg 04, which ensured an optimal starting position for the second day.

A strong finale

The second day of the tournament presented an exciting challenge. In the game against RB Leipzig, the Potsdam women were able to win after a corner kick, although the Leipzig women were denied a supposed lead. In the last game of the club championship they finally triumphed 1-0 against FC Carl Zeiss Jena and thus secured overall victory.

This brilliant performance by the young turbines is not only a great success, but also a confirmation of the excellent youth work that is being done in the club. These youth successes are part of a growing trend in girls' and women's football in Germany, where registrations of young players have risen rapidly in recent years. According to the North German Football Association (NFV), the number of girls up to the age of 16 playing football in northern Germany has almost doubled within a decade. This shows how popular football is as a sport among young women and how important competitions such as the C-Junior Championships are for their promotion.

A look into the future

In the midst of this success story there is an encouraging development in German women's football. Germany head into the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland with great ambitions, where defending champions Spain will face them. According to current statistics, over 75 percent of women surveyed in Germany show a keen interest in football, which underlines the potential and popularity of this sport. What is particularly exciting is that the German teams are not only strong internationally, but also in the Bundesliga, which is dominated by top clubs such as Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg.

The promotion and screening of talented players at the youth level is more important than ever. Therefore, looking at the successes such as the title win by the U15 junior girls from Turbine Potsdam should not only be seen as a statement of sporting triumph, but also as a sign of a growing and important movement in girls' and women's football. Because the best is yet to come!

The young turbines have shown that they have a good knack for developing and supporting young talents. We can't wait to see what further success these committed players will achieve in the future.
