Potsdam invests 111,250 euros in creative citizen projects!
On November 5, 2023, the city of Potsdam published an exciting report on the implementation of decentralized idea budgets. In a year full of creative projects, a total of 40 initiatives, which were funded with around 111,250 euros, were successfully implemented. mayor Burkhard Exner praised the commitment of citizens and encouraged them to continue to actively participate in citizens' budgets.
Impressive projects have been implemented in the various parts of the city that noticeably improve neighborly coexistence and the quality of life. For example, outdoor fitness equipment, a speed display, a village oven and a boules court with benches were installed in Satzkorn. An insect hotel was also created there to support the local wildlife.
Diversity of projects
The list of realized projects is long and varied. In Bornstedt, a new showcase is enjoying great popularity, while in Golm and Eiche a yurt and a shared bench provide more community. A mobile wood-burning oven was created in Grube, and in Bornim a “relaxation island” was created at the playground, which offers parents and children alike the opportunity to relax.
There was also numerous funding in Potsdam-West: from the “Westival 2023” event to leisure and learning opportunities for children and young people. The “ParkWandel” initiative and the “Heiligensee” film project in particular have proven to be valuable contributions to the community.
- In Babelsberg wurden Projekte wie:
- Eine kleine Skate-Rampe
- Ein Nachbarschaftsbrunch am Lindenpark
- Die Pflanzung eines Wäldchens
- Ein Straßenfest im Musikerviertel
- Eine Aufräumaktion
- Das Projekt „OPEN Bike Sensor“
Local cooperation partners such as the Satzkorn Village and Cultural Association, district coordination groups and the Potsdam West district network have been heavily involved in putting together these projects.
Looking into the future
But active work is not only being done in the past, there are also signs of progress for the citizens' budgets for 2024/25. A total of 160,000 euros are planned to further support the districts of Bornim, Bornstedt, Schlaatz and the city center, although proposals of up to 5,000 euros can still be submitted for these. The deadline is ending soon and interested citizens should hurry up. For the youth budget, which is endowed with 20,000 euros, ideas from children and young people can be submitted until August 11th, the implementation of which will be announced in September. The Federal Agency for Civic Education explains that the winning projects are selected through an online vote and a youth jury.
Overall, it shows that citizens' budgets are an excellent instrument for promoting the commitment and participation of Potsdam's urban society. Mayor Exner emphasizes the positive reception of the budgets and their future role in citizen participation. Anyone interested in the submitted proposals can view them on the City of Potsdam website.
