Managing director Horst Heldt praised his progress and emphasized the importance of Markgraf's integration into the extended circle of professional players.

From youth to professional

In 2022 he entered the “Eiserne” boarding school and attended the partnership Flatow High School, where he successfully completed his Abitur two months ago. The 19-year-old is an example of the successful promotion of talent in Germany, which is supported by programs such as those run by the DFB. These programs, of which there are 339 bases in Germany, are crucial for discovering and promoting young talents like Markgraf, who receive weekly training in addition to club training.

The DFB has made it its mission to offer talented players in their prime learning age the necessary opportunities. Around 14,000 players are screened and trained as part of this systematic support. This gives hope that other talents will have the chance to make the leap into the professional sector like Markgraf.

With his move to Union Berlin's professional squad, Markgraf could still experience many exciting challenges. The young winger is optimistic about his future games in the Bundesliga. “I can learn a lot here and gain valuable experience,” he says. The many games in the youth teams have prepared him well for the challenges ahead, and with the support of his club and the continuous support, he will certainly find his place in professional football.

Andrik Markgraf will not only be a beacon of hope for the Union Berlin team, but also an outstanding example of the success of youth work in the region. It remains to be seen what next steps the talented left-back will take in his career. But one thing is certain: fans will be keeping a close eye on him!
