The Brandenburg region can look forward to a noticeable improvement in local public transport. From December 2023, the new RE20 regional train will provide the connection between Lübben, Königs Wusterhausen, BER Airport and Berlin. This important news was confirmed by the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB). maz online reported.

The RE20 will run once an hour and, thanks to the reopening of the Dresden Railway, will provide a direct connection to Cottbus. The Blankenfelde-Mahlow, Rangsdorf and Zossen stations will be reactivated on this route. This was announced by Alexander Kaczmarek, group representative of Deutsche Bahn, at a business conference.

Improvements in the transport network

But that's not all! The Airport Express (FEX) will also take a new route via the main station, Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz from December. A branch between Mahlow and Blankenfelde will lead to the airport station and enable the route to Cottbus via Königs Wusterhausen. From now on, passengers from Berlin Central Station will get to the airport in just 23 minutes. Previously this was the case in 39 minutes.

The RE20 regional train will enable travelers to get from Königs Wusterhausen to Südkreuz in around 30 minutes. Initially, the RE20 will end in Lübbenau, with only some trains running to and from Cottbus. The planned double-track expansion of the line to Cottbus is scheduled to be completed by 2027.
