New economic route in Weesow: million investment for rural areas!
A lot is happening in Willmersdorf and Weesow! On July 11, 2025, the “northern circular routes Weesow” construction project was officially handed over. The company Berger Bau SE took over the “participating community” as part of the land planning process. Representatives of the company and local decision-makers, including the State Office for Rural Development, Agriculture and Land Reorganization (LELF) and the city of Werneuchen, were involved in the handover. The project is an important basis for improving the rural infrastructure in the region.
The new path system extends over around 1.2 kilometers and consists of a 3 meter wide layer of asphalt, supplemented by 0.75 meter wide passable shoulders. Cleverly designed drainage troughs and passing points optimize the route. The community of participants is responsible for the new regulation of the Feldmark and the construction of communal facilities in the districts of Willmersdorf, Weesow and parts of Löhme and Börnicke. This includes both new construction and the reconstruction of agricultural paths and measures to improve the water balance.
Investments for the rural future
In the last two years, around 3 kilometers of paths have been renovated or newly built in the region. With investments of almost 1 million euros, a big step is being taken towards improving rural infrastructure. What is particularly pleasing is that 75 percent of these costs were covered by federal and state funds. The remaining share was raised by the participants in the land planning process.
Planning is currently being advanced for the expansion of the Weesow-Börnicke paved path to the town of Börnicke as well as a cycle path and footpath along the road along State Road 235 between Weesow and Willmersdorf. These measures are part of a comprehensive funding concept that promotes rural development.
Support concepts and rural development
Promoting rural development plays a central role in many federal states. Although Brandenburg represents a special exception here, the goals of these developments are relevant. As the BMLEH Up to 75 percent of the costs for rural development concepts can be funded in order to implement suitable strategies for the further development of rural areas.
All of these measures are not just about preserving rural areas, but also about improving the quality of life for the residents. The State government of North Rhine-Westphalia highlights that the appearance of the villages and the general infrastructure are crucial to meet the challenges posed by demographic and economic changes.
With a growing awareness of the importance of rural development, communities, associations and citizens can be better integrated into the development processes. A common goal, that life in dressage and in the countryside not only remains pleasant but also sustainable, drives these initiatives forward.
The next few years are crucial for rural development. With the right concept and committed actors, the Weesow, Willmersdorf region and beyond can become a livable living space for everyone.
