Kita sports festival in Bernau: 400 little athletes in a frenzy of enthusiasm!

The fifth daycare sports festival of the Barnim district sports association took place on June 12, 2025 in the Erich Wünsch sports hall in Bernau. Around 400 children from 18 Bernau daycare centers took part in this colorful event, which was organized by the city of Bernau and the Barnim district sports association. Under the enthusiastic gaze of the little athletes, the mascot Barnike and presenter Karl von Breydin created a great atmosphere, while the children had a lot of fun with the numerous games and sports elements such as bouncy castles, climbing towers and obstacle courses. A musical warm-up program kicked off the sporting day, which was all about exercise and fun.

“Exercise opportunities are crucial for children’s motor development,” emphasizes Bernau’s sports representative Benedikt Kniehl. These events are not only fun, but also an important contribution to the healthy development of the youngest children. The daycare sports festival in Bernau followed previous events in other cities, such as Eberswalde, which took place two years ago after a two-year Corona break. Back then, around 750 children from more than 40 institutions took part and fun was clearly the top priority, not medals or certificates, as Barnim.de emphasizes.

Movement in Brandenburg: A central component of education

On a nationwide level, movement is very important in Brandenburg. In February 2024, a technical discussion on promoting physical activity in children and young people took place. Sport and Education Minister Steffen Freiberg emphasized the importance of sport and games for the learning process. The “Children on the Move” initiative is supported with over 1,000 collaborations between daycare centers, schools and sports clubs and is just one example among many. These projects, which were launched as part of the “Catching up after Corona” program, are a real benefit for the regions.

Particularly worth mentioning is the “Movement Kita” seal of quality, which now recognizes 22 daycare centers in Brandenburg. These certified facilities not only offer children more opportunities for exercise, but also promote basic motor fitness. This ensures that the smallest athletes are introduced to exercise from early childhood. According to experts, the connection between movement, play and learning is becoming increasingly important in early childhood education, and Brandenburg is not only on trend, but is also actively moving forward.

After the daycare sports festival in Bernau, you can also look forward to other events in the region. These are part of a comprehensive strategy to promote physical exercise among young people so that healthy coexistence can develop in both free time and everyday life. KSB Barnim is definitely well positioned for future campaigns and with a clear focus on supporting the next generation of athletes.

For Bernau, the daycare sports festival was another successful step in the right direction – and certainly not the last. The next events are already in the starting blocks to keep the kids moving and to give them a lot of joy in sport.
