Ice rink opened in Bernau: Free skating until December 14th!

Today is a big day for all ice skating fans in Bernau! On November 25, 2025, the new ice rink on the historic market square was officially opened. In the presence of Mayor André Stahl and other official representatives, the ice was inaugurated with a special performance by ice skating professionals Alexia Kruk and Jan Eisenhaber. “It’s nice to see how people come together to have fun,” said Stahl during his speech. The event promises many unforgettable hours on the ice.

The ice rink has an impressive area of 450 m² and is open until December 14th. Admission is free, and if you don't have your own skates, you can rent them for 4 euros (reduced 2 euros) at Brauerstraße 20/corner of Breite Straße. This enables relaxed ice skating for both families and ice sports enthusiasts. If you're wondering when the track is open: from Sunday to Thursday you can do your laps from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., while on Friday and Saturday ice freaks can even go on the track until 9 p.m. In the mornings the track is reserved for school classes and offers students a great opportunity to get some exercise in the cold season.

Christmas market and other supporting program

Another highlight is the Christmas market, which opens on December 5th and can be found at the Mühlentor until December 14th. If you're looking for delicious treats, you'll find them here: mulled wine and bratwurst only cost 3.50 euros each. Visitors can also expect a festive atmosphere at the Advent market at St. Mary's Church from December 5th to 7th. There are also other markets in the area in Lobetal, Schönow, Ladeburg and Birkholzaue.

Although the “Lights Shine” light installations on the city wall are canceled this year due to a lack of budget funds, the Christmas tree on the market square will be festively lit with around 1.8 kilometers of fairy lights. Pop star Antje Klann provides a musical introduction to the Christmas season, which creates the right atmosphere.

Alternative offers

If the weather doesn't cooperate, ice skating fans can head to the indoor ice rink in Holland Park. The day ticket costs 8.90 euros and the hall is open every day. On weekdays, visitors can lace up the skates from 12.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday the hall is open until 10 p.m., and on weekends and during the holidays the track is available from 9 a.m.

At a time when many cities have to do without ice skating rinks due to the energy crisis, it is all the more pleasing that Bernau is continuing this tradition. This means that the passion for ice skating remains very popular even in the cold season. So it's definitely worth a visit to enjoy the winter joys in our city. So while the ice rinks in many German cities remained stuck in the past, Bernau is opening its doors to everyone who would like to glide on the ice. ]Bernau Live reports that...
