Tree fall on B97: Spremberg fire department in large-scale operation!
Some trees caused a stir in Spremberg on Sunday afternoon. At 12:25 p.m., the fire department alerted the emergency services after a tree fell on a traffic sign along Federal Highway 97 between Spremberg and Bühlow. Not only did this tree cause the sign to fall over, but it also caused significant damage. Another tree also threatened to fall onto the street.
The Spremberg fire department was on site with 15 emergency services and four vehicles to quickly eliminate the two danger spots. The first tree was removed with a motor chainsaw, while the second tree was secured and lowered in a controlled manner using a winch. Despite the extensive work, the federal highway remained one-way and the police rerouted traffic accordingly.
More operations in the area
Further reports were received during the course of the operation. It was reported from the opencast mining road that trees had fallen into telephone lines. These locations were also processed by the fire brigade. Fortunately, there were no injuries in these incidents, which was relieving news for the rescuers.
The federal highway 97 continues to be an important traffic junction in the region, especially as the city of Spremberg and the surrounding area are currently in the process of renewal. The renovation of the B 97 in the area of the Spremberg/Schwarze Pumpe bypass has been underway since April 24, 2025. The old road surface is removed and replaced with a new layer of asphalt. The work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2025. During this time, the federal highway is completely closed behind the intersection of Landesstraße L 471 / Berliner Straße up to the B 156 junction. Traffic from Cottbus is redirected via the L 471 through Spremberg and further via the B 156, this also applies in the opposite direction.
The State Road Agency would like to thank road users for their understanding during the construction work, which represents an important step towards improving the transport infrastructure in the region.
