Oskar Haffner from Senftenberg turns 100: A century full of life!

A very special birthday was celebrated in Senftenberg on November 5, 2025: Oskar Haffner, a veteran of the city, turned 100 years old. Surrounded by family and friends, including Mayor Andreas Pfeiffer, the anniversary man popped the corks in the market café and enjoyed his special day to the fullest. A native of Saarburg who was born in 1925, Haffner came to Lusatia during the Second World War. Since then he has experienced and achieved a lot here.

After moving, Haffner worked for many years as an electrical engineer in the Hoyerswerda housing complex. In 1947 he married in the town hall of Senftenberg, and with his wife he gave birth to two children, daughter Doris and son Dieter. He likes to talk about his travels, which took him to Lake Balaton in Hungary, and also about the regular family meetings at Pentecost - the next meeting is planned for 2026. The heartwarming thing: The now 100-year-old is looked after by his daughter Doris and lives on Asternweg, where he also sees five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren growing up proudly.

An active life with an eye on the world

Knowing full well that life is more than just your own four walls, Haffner is always interested in world events. He reads newspapers every day to stay informed. In social gatherings, he also likes to treat himself to a glass of sweet white wine. Niederlausitz Current highlights that five residents in Senftenberg have currently reached the proud age of 100 or more, with Haffner being one of the oldest.

It seems that a lot falls into the background when you celebrate such a big birthday. Oskar Haffner shows that joy in life and thinking about family are important even in old age. And for the Haffner family, tradition is very important, not only that the person celebrating their anniversary is an integral part of the community for years, but the weekly family meetings also strengthen family cohesion.

Tradition and modernity go hand in hand

In a world that is constantly changing, Haffner's visit remains remarkable. Even though he doesn't always understand the latest developments and technologies, he is still fascinated. While many people deal with *Exchange Traded Funds* (ETFs) in everyday life, for Haffner it would be a whole new world. ETFs are exchange-traded index funds that offer the opportunity to pool company holdings and at the same time invest flexibly. The company OSKAR, which already invests 50% in sustainable ETFs, manages to ensure that the risk is spread and the investments remain transparent. Oskar.de describes in its own way how small investors can also invest in ETFs with amounts starting from 25 euros.

For many, this is an exciting opportunity to earn a little extra income or to make provisions for the future. The principle of compound interest is often underestimated, while Haffner continues to seek out coffee parties with his friends.

Encounters and memories are the great treasures that accompany us as we age. Haffner is living proof of this. Whether in the family or in the community, he remains an important part of the Senftenberg community. The spark that rekindled his life story on November 5th will, for many, continue to reflect on their time together.

And while Oskar Haffner celebrated his glorious birthday with a smile in his eyes, he reminded everyone of what really matters: enjoying family, friends and life to the fullest - no matter what age.
