651 graduates celebrate success – district starts school modernization!
In the last few weeks, the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district celebrated the school graduations of 651 students, which are now opening the gates to new phases in life. The graduation ceremonies took place at the district's own schools before the summer holidays and offered a festive setting to honor the successful completion of school. The district administrator, Siegurd Heinze, warmly congratulated the students and wished them much success for the future Niederlausitz Current reported.
Among the graduates are 235 students who successfully passed their Abitur at three high schools, the Paul-Fahlisch-Gymnasium in Lübbenau, the Friedrich-Engels-Gymnasium in Senftenberg and the Emil-Fischer-Gymnasium in Schwarzheide. Around 44 students with special needs were sent off to special schools.
School construction and renovation in focus
With the end of the school year, not only the graduates but also the district are celebrating innovations in the area of school construction and renovation. The focus is on the current renovation work, as the district is making numerous investments this year to modernize the school buildings. Particularly noteworthy is the renovation of the Friedrich-Engels-Gymnasium in Senftenberg, which costs around 11 million euros. The Paul-Fahlisch-Gymnasium will also be upgraded and will have new shading areas and seating.
A targeted renovation of the special needs school in Lübbenau is also planned in order to meet the special needs of the children. There is also exciting news: a new building is planned for the “Hand in Hand” special school in Senftenberg, for which almost 25 million euros have been earmarked. The construction site for this important new building is scheduled to open in autumn 2025.
Educational conference and future perspectives
In order to address the challenges in school construction, the district's second education conference took place on September 8th in the Paul-Fahlisch-Gymnasium. District Administrator Heinze emphasized the urgency and relevance of building the school. The conference focused on the complexity and the financial and human resources that are necessary to make school construction future-proof.
