In Elsterwerda, unknown riots caused a stir during the night. Unknown perpetrators threw parts of a warning beacon through a balcony window of an apartment building on Mittelgraben. This deliberate act of property damage resulted in an estimated loss of around 500 euros. The police have already started an investigation and looked around the crime scene to secure possible clues. Such incidents raise questions, especially in view of the current development of crime in Germany.
Especially at a time when, according to police crime statistics ( Statista ) there is talk of a 1.7% decline in crimes to around 5.84 million in 2024, such incidents are particularly worrying. In a country that has seen a decline in cannabis crimes in recent years due to partial legalization, there is still an increase in crimes that affect citizens' sense of security. A review shows that crimes such as theft and bodily harm in particular continue to occur frequently. In this context, Elsterwerda could represent an exception, but the question remains how many such acts go undetected.
Fire damage in Finsterwalde
While window panes were used as targets in Elsterwerda, there was apparently another emergency in Finsterwalde. Witnesses reported smoke coming from the direction of Klarastraße on Thursday. The fire department was able to intervene quickly because the compost was burning. This fire quickly spread to a disposal bin and a greenhouse. The sea of flames was under control after about 20 minutes, but the incident still caused material damage of around 6,000 euros. A further indication that safety and fire protection must also have high priority in everyday life in the region.
Traffic accident in Bad Liebenwerda
It wasn't just turbulent in Elsterwerda and Finsterwalde, things also got tricky in Bad Liebenwerda on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. There was a collision between a SKODA car and an OPEL on Heinrich-Heine-Straße. Luckily there were no injuries, but the material damage still exceeded the 11,000 euro mark - the OPEL Meriva was no longer drivable. Incidents like this remind us that road safety remains an ongoing concern on our roads.
The recent events in Elsterwerda, Finsterwalde and Bad Liebenwerda show the different facets of crime and vandalism in the region and highlight the need to remain vigilant in order to strengthen citizens' sense of security. Perhaps more preventative measures or more active citizen participation are needed to prevent future incidents.
