Templiner Kurmeile: Creative ideas bubble up in the workshop!
The city of Templin is bursting with ideas - and not without reason. At a recent workshop on the further development of the Kurmeile, the participants, around 40 in number, came from different areas to develop visionary suggestions. The Kurmeile, which has been the focus of public discussions since its completion in 2000, is now finally set to receive a new face Northern Courier reported.
The workshop began with an inspection of the spa mile, followed by an inventory of the existing infrastructure. The landscape architect Martin Steinbrenner discovered that the weaknesses of the Kurmeile lie primarily in the inadequate signage and inadequate access. In this regard, it became clear that both locals and tourists want to increase their opportunities for recreation in nature.
Diverse ideas for the spa mile
The suggestions from the workshop participants are promising. The ideas include a viewing platform, a picnic area and a glass pavilion. The installation of sanitary facilities and a flexible stage are also under discussion. But the implementation of these plans is not new either: previous workshops in 2014 and 2017 already led to numerous recommendations, most of which were not implemented. For example, the AfD parliamentary group submitted an application for a public toilet; However, the administration advised waiting for a comprehensive development concept first.
A central aspect of the discussion was the different target groups: Do we need the spa mile for those seeking relaxation or those seeking adventure? Katja Zielke, who continued the spa town development concept, emphasized the changing needs of guests and locals. There was agreement that the spa mile should be made accessible to everyone.
Step-by-step implementation and support
The Templin city council had already decided on a spa town development concept in 2012 in order to systematically advance the projects. This development is supported by the Kurstadt Steering Group, which acts as a network of experts and monitors the entire implementation process. This includes key measures in the areas of tourism marketing, health and the environment to ensure a holistic approach, as stated on the city's website templin.de is listed.
The next steps have already been determined. Project M will design a rough concept that integrates and documents the suggestions developed in the workshop. The results will also be published on the city website to keep anyone interested informed. This paves the way for Templin to develop into an even more attractive destination and health resort.
The discussion about the role of spa towns in the modern context is also highlighted in the specialist literature. The anthology “The spa town as an urban phenomenon” asks about the meaning of health resorts today and addresses the breaks between rural idyll and urban modernity, which could be particularly informative for the development of the spa mile in Templin, as in a publication by De Gruyter is highlighted.
