Discover Templin: An authentic African village on Lübbesee!

Templin, one of the larger cities in Brandenburg, has a lot to offer with its 377.84 square kilometers and around 15,590 inhabitants. The city is not only the eighth largest in Germany, but also rich in history and culture. Its almost completely preserved medieval city wall, which stretches over 1,735 meters and is up to 7 meters high, is one of the city's most impressive sights. Journee Mondiale reports that Templin promises a particularly attractive time for visitors in autumn 2025, when the Uckermark blooms in full color.

The uniquely designed “Africa Village” is located directly on the picturesque Lübbesee. This extraordinary project, which was initiated by a former soldier from German East Africa, creates African architecture in the midst of Brandenburg's nature. In addition, cultural events are offered in the renovated Hyparschale, which attract visitors and locals alike.

Cultural and natural treasures

There are numerous hidden attractions in Templin. Because of its idyllic 25 lakes and diverse nature, the city is ideal for hikers and nature lovers. Like a good tailor, the city has shown a good knack for preserving its historical structures and constantly upgrading its cultural highlights. Templin is often referred to as “The Pearl of the Uckermark”, which is not surprising given its historical significance and scenic beauty.

The history of Templin is rich and diverse. The region was already populated by the Retschanen in the 8th century, and towns like Templin have developed over the centuries. In 1147 the area came under the rule of the Ascanian Albrecht the Bear, and in 1270 Templin was mentioned in a document as “Templyn”. Over the centuries, the city has experienced many ups and downs, including city fires in the 15th and 18th centuries and the destruction caused by bombing during World War II.

Modern developments

After the war, when the city grew from around 8,000 to 11,500 residents in 1945, extensive redevelopment began. Despite the challenges, there are now many successes to be noted. Templin was officially recognized as a “state-recognized resort” in 1985 and continues to benefit from its proximity to Berlin, which promotes tourist influx. Wikipedia shows that the construction of new facilities such as a district hospital and a youth hostel also contributed to stability.

The city proves to be a place where tradition and modernity meet harmoniously. An example of how to deal with nature is the opening of the Naturtherme Templin in 2000. Furthermore, the city is experiencing a renaissance thanks to initiatives by committed citizens. Work is underway to renovate the “Multicultural Center” and initiate the revival of the historic “Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium”. These developments contribute to the improvement of the cityscape and the relaunch of the community.

So what could be nicer than browsing through one of the numerous nature trails or abandoned Wiekhäuser in autumnal Templin? The city invites everyone who wants to discover its cultural and natural treasures!
