Templin Citizens Forest: Shape the future of the city forest with us!
Templin, a city that cares about its green lungs, would like to involve citizens more in the design of its urban forest. A communal forest is managed here on around 3,500 hectares, which not only fulfills economic aspects, but also shows ecological and social responsibility. Again Northern Courier reports, the focus is on the development towards a community forest.
On September 12th, the city will hold an information event at which forester Hans-Lennard Vöcks will give exciting insights into the work of the city forestry team. There is great interest because topics such as the removal of trees and economic practices in urban forests are addressed. Citizens are called upon to contribute their questions and ideas in order to think together about the future of the forest.
The forest as a valuable ecosystem
But what makes the Templin city forest so special? The forest areas are located in the large protected areas “Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve” and “Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park”. This gives the forest a high nature conservation value, as does the city website highlights. Various rare bird species breed here, including sea eagles and black storks - amazing when you consider that visitors don't stay away from this natural idyll. Care is taken to ensure that sufficient habitat is maintained for these animals despite the busy visitor activity.
The area between Templin and Fährkrug is particularly interesting, where recreational use takes priority over timber harvesting. Cyclists and skaters will find a hotspot here, and the recreational offerings are designed to appeal to people with special needs. With a well-developed network of paths and the preservation of old trees, the city forest becomes an attraction for all nature lovers.
Insight into sustainable practices
The city not only encourages citizen participation, but also pursues sustainable forestry. According to a study conducted in... Federal Agency for Nature Conservation As explained, sustainable forest use is an important topic in Germany. Concepts for sustainable use are continually being developed to ensure that biological diversity is preserved. Today's forest management procedures are based on ecological guidelines that take both economic and social aspects into account.
The citizens of Templin are cordially invited to gather on September 12th at 3:30 p.m. at the railway crossing to Schwarzen Weg, near Prenzlauer Allee. This event offers a great opportunity to gain direct insights into sustainable forestry and to actively participate in the design of the city forest - because together the forest is twice as much fun!
