Culinary encounters: Prenzlau is (s) t ... enchants the guests!

The ninth round of the popular format "Prenzlau is (s) t ..." took place on July 13th in the glass house and brought together over 50 guests to cook and eat together. Organized by the community foundation Barnim Uckermark, TFA-Akademie GmbH, the Safe & Sound project and the Kulturwerk Prenzlau e.V., the event not only offers culinary delights, but also promotes the coexistence in the community. Sekine Flämig from the community foundation emphasized that many participants were very interested in acting actively while cooking.

As with the previous events, there was also a variety of dishes this time that the participants could prepare. Recipes such as Italian pasta salad, Albanian tarte flambee, homemade herb butter and rice salad were on the plan. The women of the Woman Action Space project also suggested organizing an international cooking afternoon in the future.

a delicious community experience

The glass house became a business activities: it was snipped, grated, mixed, cooked and baked. The organizers were also supported by fresh strawberries by the Bernhard family from Stegemannshof as well as the active help of Beate Schulz, the owner of the organic shop "LEW", which was also among the participants. The event addressed all generations, and young people were also involved.

These culinary meetings are part of the “Dedicated City” network and take place regularly every two months in changing locations, whereby a new topic is always in focus. The next meeting will take place on August 27th in the community center, organized by the Network Healthy Children and the Angermünder Bildungswerk, which comes up with grill activities.

cultural diversity by cooking together

Cooking together is not only limited to Prenzlau, because in similar projects such as that of Mohr-Villa Freimann, it is made clear that culinary cultural mediation can also offer a platform for intercultural exchange. There the association cooperates with the theater group "Theater Limitless", in which young refugees are active. Under the title "Culture tastes!" You not only learn recipes from different countries when cooking, but also promotes understanding and exchange between the participants.

The initiative also uses saved foods to create creative dishes, a concept that is supported by the Munich company "Etetetete". Also "culture tastes!" the goal of beating a bridge between cultures and counteracting foods. As part of the initiative, a Food Festival and various culinary events will be launched in the future that present the variety of kitchens.

So the format "Prenzlau is (s) t ..." is not only a pleasure for palate and stomach, but also a step in the right direction to bring the community together and to promote intercultural exchange. The next time you want to cook, you should tick the 27th August red in the calendar!
