Construction work on the L20: full closure from July 7th - what residents need to know!
The anticipation increases, because the construction work on the state road L20 between Velten and Pinnow is just around the corner. On July 7, 2025, the work that aims to sustainably improve the road conditions begin. Around 3.5 kilometers of lane are subjected to an urgent renewal of binder and top layer, as the city of Hohen Neuendorf reports. The motorway bridge ramps remain unaffected by this work.
The construction work was originally supposed to start in May 2025, but they were delayed by two months due to an objection by a company that operates a water ski and water incidence park in the area concerned. This company had taken legal action because the construction site feared a decline in customers and even a threat to its existence. The Higher Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg ultimately found that the work is necessary in the interest of traffic safety and thus gave the State Roads Green Light. The construction work is divided into three sections, with each section associated with a full closure:
- 1. Departure Velten Velten up to half the confluence with Borgsdorfer Weg (between A 111 and A 10).
- 2. Second half of the Borgsdorfer Weg junction to the confluence "Am Bernsteinsee".
- 3. 100 meters before the confluence with the concrete plant to the entrance to Pinnow (divided into two sections).
The first and the second construction phase will be fully blocked from July 7th to mid -September 2025. During this time, the Bernsteinsee can only be reached via Borgsdorf. In the third section, which is expected from mid -September to the end of October 2025, access to the Bernsteinsee via Velten will be possible.

The planned full closures require extensive diversion measures. Road users who are not allowed to use the highway are guided via the L172, Germendorf, L170, B273, Oranienburg, L211 and K6504. The detour route towards Velten leads via the Birkenwerder, A10, A111 and Hennigsdorf and L177 junctions. For the residents, the property access is still guaranteed during the construction period, and waste disposal is organized in coordination with the local waste disposal company.
Although the construction work is inevitable to improve road quality, residents and all road users have to expect restrictions. These measures are necessary to ensure the protection of the building contractors during the work.
The improvement of the L20 is a clear sign of progress in the region.
