It wasn't just Shapijanov who was able to attract attention. Emily Frädrich from Schwedt, who qualified for the championships like her club colleague, also deservedly fought her way to the podium and took third place in the featherweight category (up to 57 kg). A total of 101 men and 31 women between the ages of 18 and 22 competed against each other in 10 weight classes.

Event details

The championships, organized by the Uckermärkischen Boxverein 1948 e.V., took place under the patronage of the German Boxing Association e.V. The organization was excellent, supported by Stadtsparkasse Schwedt and Stadtwerke Schwedt. In order to renew the boxing ring for the event and cover the license fees, a donation of 8,000 euros was collected. The event had a strong grip on the sporting community and the event was attended by scores of boxing fans who loudly cheered on the athletes.

The competitions were held in three daily blocks: at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The women's final took place on the evening of October 24th, followed by the men's final on October 25th. The day ticket cost 10 euros on site, and the organizers were expecting well over 130 participants.

Diverse field of participants

The participants in the championships had to meet different requirements, such as membership in a DBV club and a certain number of fights. The competitions were organized in a knockout system, with titles only being awarded to a minimum number of athletes per weight class. The competition mode meant that if there were a free number of participants in a class, the winner of the first fight would advance directly to the final, which created additional excitement.

These victories and placings are in many ways a milestone for boxing in the region, and the successes of Shapijanov and Frädrich are an encouraging sign for future talent. Thanks to the committed sponsors and the excellent organization of the tournament, the Uckermärkische Boxverein 1948 e.V. is clearly very popular. The championships set an example for the sporting community in Schwedt and beyond, and fans can look forward to further exciting competitions.
