Turbine Potsdam surprisingly parted ways with coach Kurt Russ

The situation at the 1st FFC Turbine Potsdam surprisingly came to a head on November 7, 2025. The club has decided to dismiss head coach Kurt Russ with immediate effect. This decision followed a bitter 1:3 home defeat against VfL Wolfsburg II, which was not only disappointing for those responsible for the club, but also further aggravated the already critical situation in the 2nd Women's Bundesliga. President Karsten Ritter-Lang announced that three points were expected from this game, which ultimately could not be achieved. The current table shows that Turbine Potsdam is stuck in a relegation zone with just two wins from nine games.

Russ took over in the relegation battle in October 2024 and was actually supposed to tackle promotion back to the Bundesliga with a newly formed squad. But Ritter-Lang now made it clear that the implementation of Russ' concept no longer worked and that he was not reaching the team sufficiently. Despite the separation, he emphasized that the cooperation on a personal level was always positive and that there were no tensions between coach and team. This human element is highly valued by the club.

A revolution is imminent

Turbine Potsdam has finished the last five games without a win and the pressure is growing. The next game against VfR Warbeyen is already scheduled for Sunday, November 9th. Assistant and athletic trainer Patrick Ritzinger will take over responsibility in the coaching bench on an interim basis while the club is actively looking for a new head coach with at least an A license. Despite the poor results, the club is satisfied with the individual quality of the players, but sees the numerous individual mistakes as the reasons for the goals conceded.

Ritter-Lang described the last matchday as an emotional turning point for the team. In such difficult times, it is important that unity is created in order to find our way out of the crisis together. This is also reminiscent in some ways of the biblical perspective on relationships as expressed in the book of Cantares. Mutual belonging is emphasized there, which is important for the Turbine Potsdam team these days. In a healthy team dynamic, every player should take responsibility and work for the well-being of the team.

Amid these challenges, it is clear that Turbine Potsdam now needs a clear course. A new chapter at the club is about to begin and fans are hoping for a return to old strengths soon. The focus now is on making the upcoming games successful and getting out of the relegation zone. The path won't be easy, but with a good hand in choosing a coach and a committed team, the chances of a turnaround are not bad. Turbine Potsdam urgently needs an upward trend in order to reconcile the citizens and supporters of the club.
