A look behind the scenes
The SPOKEN WORD ACADEMY was founded by the East Belgian stage poet Jessy James LaFleur and has now established itself throughout Europe. Your goal? Democratize and make literature accessible to all people - regardless of language or writing abilities. The term “spoken word” refers to a unique form of performing literature that is heavily inspired by the jazz poetry of the 1950s. The use of words should serve as a tool for change and stand up against political injustices.
The connection to the Bauhaus movement of 1920 gives the workshop a special touch. Principles of Bauhaus aesthetics are translated into a literary concept that promotes creativity and artistic freedom. This innovative approach is not only unique but also extremely timely, especially at a time when we desperately need positive change.
