Lauchhammer: Nursing staff at the retirement center are happy about an 8% wage increase!
There is a reason to be happy at the Mückenberger Ländchen retirement home in Lauchhammer: starting this month, around 150 employees can look forward to a pay increase of 8 percent. This regulation is the result of a collective agreement that the ver.di union and the Society for Senior Services (GSD) concluded in 2024. Loud Niederlausitz Current A first increase of 15 percent was made last year on September 1, 2024.
Mario Schmidt, a long-time employee of the retirement center, is satisfied: "Finally the work is being adequately compensated. This gives us the appreciation that we deserve." This means that the pay level of employees in Lauchhammer is above the current collective agreement for the public service (TVöD), which is generating a positive response in the industry.
Tangible benefits for employees
From September 1, 2025, the lowest hourly wage will be raised to 15.75 euros. The training allowance will also increase by 120 euros from October 1, 2025. Employees also receive an annual special payment of 65 percent of the average monthly gross salary - this Christmas bonus is paid out at the end of November.
There is a monthly nursing shift allowance of 150 euros, especially for nursing staff and nursing staff in the inpatient area. Anyone who regularly works night shifts can also look forward to a night bonus of 25 to 40 percent, while Sunday work is paid with a 50 percent bonus. With a weekly working time of 39 hours, employees are also entitled to 30 working days of vacation per year and an additional day of vacation for every 150 night hours worked.
Looking into the future
The collective bargaining regulations are limited in time. The next collective bargaining negotiations are scheduled for April 2026 at the latest. The 50 percent of employees who are members of the ver.di union and who provide support relevant to negotiations can also look forward to this. There will also be a further improvement in 2027: Then all employees, including trainees and interns, will be entitled to an additional day off, which will increase the vacation entitlement to 31 days ver.di reported.
Thanks to these ongoing developments, the course has been set to further optimize working conditions in the nursing sector. This is also reflected in the fact that there is room for maneuver, such as the possibility of voluntarily increasing working hours of up to 42 hours per week, although this does not apply to trainees or during the probationary period.
Overall, the development in the retirement center proves that good collective agreements and the willingness to work together between employers and unions can bear fruit. “We still have a lot to do, but it’s nice to see that our efforts are paying off,” emphasizes Schmidt optimistically.
