Cold apartments in Elsterwerda: City covers heating costs for tenants!
In Elsterwerda, around 70 tenants are currently experiencing a frosty time. Despite regular payments of additional costs, their apartments have been left cold since the end of September because the payments have not been received by the gas provider. This situation led to the gas being turned off, which is particularly dramatic considering that the heating and water in the affected households have fallen to zero. In order to help citizens, the city of Elsterwerda has announced that it will cover heating costs for the next few months in order to make the cold over the winter more bearable. Loud RBB24 The city expects heating costs in the five-figure range for the next three months.
However, the problems are not just limited to Elsterwerda. Things are also heating up in Lauchhammer, where around 700 tenants are affected - or rather, cold. The tenants were already threatened with the heat supply being stopped on October 31st, but the city has provisionally ensured that the heat supply will be maintained until the end of the year. The landlord Vivet has settled some of the outstanding liabilities, which provides a little breathing room for the time being.
Legal action will be taken
In view of the unfortunate situation, the cities of Elsterwerda and Lauchhammer have initiated legal action against the apartment landlord Vivet. A crisis meeting has already taken place between the mayors of both cities, the CDU state parliament member Rainer Genilke and representatives of the SPD and the Left to discuss joint action against the grievances. Discussions are also underway with the tenants' association, the municipal supervisory authority and the Brandenburg ministries to clarify the situation. Loud Lausitz wave The situation remains tense as Vivet has not yet issued a statement on the allegations.
In Elsterwerda, the gas supply has already been stopped for 56 tenants and the city has issued an order against Vivet and the gas provider. Interestingly, the gas provider appears willing to talk, while Vivet did not respond to the order. This could prove to be a problem when it comes to getting the heaters back up and running as quickly as possible, as there could be delays due to technical defects that may have arisen due to a lack of maintenance.
The mayor of Elsterwerda and the town hall boss of Lauchhammer asked for support in an open letter to Brandenburg's Prime Minister. There is therefore an urgent need for action so that tenants not only in Elsterwerda but also in Lauchhammer are spared a new cold period in winter. The hope for a quick solution remains - not only among the affected tenants, but also among the local decision-makers.
