Car thieves arrested in Strausberg: Ford Fiesta back in possession!

Four young men are causing a stir in Brandenburg after they were arrested in Strausberg. The police caught them red-handed while driving a previously stolen Ford Fiesta. The theft of the car dates back to June 11, 2025, when the owner parked the vehicle on “Am Stadion” street with the ignition key in the lock and the car not locked. Such incidents are alarming because car theft liability rules can often be complicated for drivers.

The search for the stolen Ford Fiesta was launched immediately after the theft. On June 12, 2025, the district police managed to discover the vehicle on Jungfernstrasse. When the police officers took the car, the four men tried to escape but were quickly arrested. Those arrested are three young people aged 15, 16 and 17 and a 20-year-old man. A particularly disturbing detail: none of them have a driving license. Investigations are currently underway against the suspects, who apparently played a dangerous game with the law.

The situation in Germany

Car theft is an ongoing problem in Germany. According to GDV, partially comprehensive insurance is important to cover damage in the event of theft. This guarantees reimbursement of the replacement value of the vehicle, although the deductible is deducted from the total. In addition, there is no downgrade because there is no no-claims discount in partial comprehensive insurance. Damage to permanently installed parts such as on-board computers and airbags are also covered. This is particularly important for car owners who want to minimize the risk of theft.

Statistics also show that population density has a significant impact on car theft fraud rates. In North Rhine-Westphalia in 2022, over half (53.6%) of car thefts were registered in regions with more than 100,000 inhabitants, while more rural areas such as Rhineland-Palatinate with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants often have even higher theft rates. This is another reason for affected citizens to take their own safety and that of their vehicle seriously and, if necessary, invest in insurance cover or take preventative measures.

These incidents in Strausberg are a clear indication that car thefts continue to be a major problem in the region. Let's hope that such offenses become less common in the future and more people realize the importance of safety precautions.
