In an exciting transformation, the community hospital in Seelow, 80 kilometers east of Berlin, is about to transform into an innovative healthcare campus. The clinic currently offers two specialist departments with a total of 90 inpatient beds - 27 for surgery and 63 for internal medicine. After the renovations, however, there will only be one ward with 30 beds, while new services such as short-term care and an outpatient surgery center will be created. Some outpatient services, including specialist consultations, physiotherapy, a pharmacy and a medical supply store, will also be part of the new campus.
Political support and future prospects
The district administrator of the Märkisch-Oderland district, Gernot Schmidt (SPD), emphasizes the importance of inter-party cooperation in this project. “We want to achieve a development that includes everyone involved,” says Schmidt, while the need for a needs-based offer is discussed. Müller also emphasizes that the involvement of health insurance companies and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians is of utmost importance in order to make medical care in the region sustainable.
An interesting aspect is the relocation of the cardiac catheter laboratory and the cardiology services to Strausberg. The new model also enables regular gynecological consultations in Seelow by a gynecologist from Strausberg, which brings medical care closer to the people.

The health campus in Seelow follows a similar concept that has already been successfully implemented in other regions.
