Traditions and customs
But what is actually behind Halloween? Loud SR.de The custom has its roots in Celtic mythology, where the festival “Samhain” was celebrated. At that time it was believed that the souls of the deceased returned. In the early 20th century, Irish immigrants brought this tradition to the United States, where it developed greatly and returned to Europe, including through U.S. soldiers and popular horror films.
An important element of Halloween is pumpkin carving, which is inspired by an Irish legend about Jack Oldfield, who used a turnip to search for the way after his death. In North America, the turnip has been replaced by the pumpkin - a strong classic that cannot be missed at the events in Brandenburg.
In Burk last year, 15 children diligently carved pumpkins, supported by their parents and grandparents. Despite weather-related cancellations, participants rated the event as consistently positive. A big thank you goes to the sponsor Peter Freund from the company “Rent a Flaschner” from Forchheim, who supported the campaign, as well as to the Gügel family for providing the garage where the carving took place, as reported CSU.de.
With these colorful and spooky offerings, Oderland has something to offer for every Halloween fan. Whether small horror events or large celebrations – the region promises an exciting time for young and old!
