Construction chaos on I-5: Important closures from June 16th to 20th!

Travelers on Interstate 5 (I-5) in the Castaic area will have to prepare for some adjustments in the coming days. How scvnews.com reported, nighttime lane restrictions will be in place from Monday, June 16th to Friday, June 20th, 2025. The site extends from Lake Hughes Road to two miles north of Templin Highway, near the Whitaker Sand Shed.

During the work, one lane will be closed on both the northbound and southbound carriageways from 9am to 3pm each day. At night, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., up to three lanes are affected. Travelers should be prepared to allow extra time for their journeys and drive carefully through construction areas. On Friday, June 20, the Templin Highway exit will also remain closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. These adjustments are part of a larger project that has been underway since April 2022 and includes replacing concrete layers and improving drainage systems.

Overview of the project

The comprehensive construction project, which started in April 2022, not only includes the renewal of the road surface, but also the stabilization of slopes through rock scaling and the construction of a retaining wall. Care will be taken to ensure that no two consecutive exits are closed at the same time during the work in order to make traffic flow as smooth as possible.

Of course, Caltrans ensures that information about construction sites is up to date. If you want to stay up to date, you can find out about the latest developments via Caltrans QuickMap to find out more about closures and traffic conditions.

Extensions and related projects

As part of the I-5 Anchor Pavement and Rehabilitation Project, about the dot.ca.gov informed, there are already other closures and construction sites. This San Joaquin County project scheduled full closures of Eight Mile Road on-ramp and Hammer Lane off-ramp from April 10-14, 2025, and current work is aimed at improving 34 miles of existing roadway. Work on the existing lane will continue until August 4, 2025.

In total, Caltrans currently has 896 ongoing construction contracts, as shown in the interactive map Caltrans website emerges. This offers travelers the opportunity not only to view current projects, but also to obtain more detailed information thanks to its zoom functions.
