Presentation of the best high school graduates: An era full of success in Prenzlau!
Last weekend, the Uckerseehalle in Prenzlau was the scene of a special event: the Christa-und-Peter-Scherpf-Gymnasium's graduation ceremony for 57 young-at-heart high school graduates. Headmaster Ludger Melters welcomed not only the graduates, but also their families, tutors and members of the support association and the Scherpf-Bagemihl Foundation. It was a moment that was both proud and emotional.
A look back at August 5, 2019 shows the journey that the graduates have taken up to this point: 86 students started the school, a few years later 57 of them now have their Abitur in their pockets, including two with the dream grade of 1.0. Five more can look forward to an A average. The average grade for the year is 2.1, which is above the national average of 2.2. These are remarkable achievements that Melters acknowledged.
Special achievements in various subjects
The achievements of the graduates are not only impressive in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. The results in the subjects of German and geography were above the national average. Particularly good grades were achieved in biology, history and mathematics. Melters also expressed hope for a return to the mathematical tradition of the 1990s, which many still have fond memories of.
During the evening we also took a look into the future. High school graduates' plans are diverse: 29 percent would like to take a social year, which represents an increase compared to the 14 percent of the previous year. On the other hand, only 18 percent of graduates want to start training in the skilled trades - a significant decline compared to the 42.6 percent in 2023. On the other hand, 23 percent are aiming for dual study programs and 30 percent are aiming for a regular course of study.
Future study locations
The geographical diversity of the desired study locations is particularly interesting. Twelve high school graduates have decided to study outside of the usual cities such as Berlin, Rostock and Greifswald. Among them is Vienna, which underlines the journey of knowledge and personal development.
In his speech, Melters emphasized the importance of down-to-earthness and supra-regional experience for the further development of the region. This shows that it's not just the degree itself that counts, but also returning to your homeland and supporting the region in which you grew up. At the end of the evening, he warmly thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the year and wished the graduates a successful prom.
This high school graduation ceremony is not only a milestone for young people, but also illustrates the value of education in Germany. Loud Statista Around 259,300 high school graduates were counted nationwide in 2022, with education in Germany being a state matter. There are different regulations and requirements for the Abitur from state to state. However, a basic requirement for many study opportunities at universities and colleges always remains the general university entrance qualification, which the graduates of the Christa-und-Peter-Scherpf-Gymnasium have now acquired.
The celebration in Prenzlau was an integral part of the Abitur celebrations in the region and set a positive tone in the educational landscape of Brandenburg, while also clearly emphasizing the importance of education and the Abitur in society.
