On Monday evening, the first public candidate forum for the mayoral election in Prenzlau took place in the new Güstow community center. The two candidates had a lot to say when it came to the challenges of the city. Various topics such as the provision of district budgets, the future of the indoor pool, the admission of refugees as well as questions about local economy, tourism and the care of green spaces were discussed. Wolfgang Schulz received special attention, which criticized the condition of the Güstower Feuerhöschtich.

Both candidates also spoke out against the location of a initial reception facility by the Bundeswehr in the commercial area. When asked about the indoor pool, Guske said that she did not completely exclude this possibility, while Wöller-Beez rejected it and instead supported swimming lessons at Lake Uckers. The idea of Lake Unteruckerse as a tourist potential with various ideas for houseboats and gastronomy was also interesting. The discussion was quite factual and respectful, that was well received by the guests.

mayoral election on the horizon

With a view to the upcoming elections, Sunday, September 28, 2025, is firmly anchored in the calendar of the Prenzlau citizens. The mayor is elected in a free, general and secret choice for eight years. It is worth noting that the mayors in Brandenburg have been chosen directly by the citizens since 1993 and that the turnout has often left a lot to be desired in the past. Less than half of the residents took part in the last elections, which again underlines the importance of a lively citizens' discussion and a committed election campaign.

The next deadlines are also pending: until July 24, 12 p.m., further candidates can be proposed for the mayor's office. This gives the political landscape in Prenzlau the opportunity to develop in an exciting way. The directly elected mayors have a great responsibility for the municipal processes and the well -being of the city.

The voters are called to inform themselves and actively participate in this democratic process. After all, a functioning democracy lives from committed citizens who not only make use of their rights, but also stand for their concerns.
