Pilgrimage Mecklenburg Lake District is urgently looking for overnight accommodation!
In the picturesque region of the Mecklenburg Lake District, pilgrimage culture is becoming increasingly lively. Since 2014, over 1,000 pilgrims have made the approximately 230 kilometer long journey Pilgrimage route daring, which leads from the town of Friedland via Neubrandenburg to Mirow. Every year around 100 people use this path, which is suitable not only for experienced hikers but also for beginners to gain spiritual experiences.
The pilgrimage route, which bears the symbolic yellow shell on a blue background, was expanded in 2023 and now leads to Bad Wilsnack. This ensures a direct connection to the well-known pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, which gives the Mecklenburg Lake District pilgrimage route an additional appeal.
Important information for pilgrims
Felicitas Rohde-Schaeper, the pilgrim companion from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is responsible for looking after the path. Together with her team, she supports those interested in planning routes and finding accommodation. The demand for simple and affordable accommodation is constantly growing, especially between Fürstenberg and Mirow, via Priepert, Drosedow and Diemitz. Many pilgrims are looking for mattresses in the house or campsites in the garden, equipped with basic sanitary facilities.
Rohde-Schaeper currently has space in her own house for around 10 to 15 pilgrims per year and invites them to offer accommodation. Contact requests can be made directly via email [email protected] or by phone on 015150441932. As part of the active pilgrimage, it is important that both commercial hosts and private individuals make their accommodation available.
Route and stages
The path itself is divided into different sections that can be easily reached by train. The individual stages range from 12 to 20 kilometers, which is ideal for gaining pilgrimage experiences even on weekends. The highlights of the route include fascinating views around Lake Tollense and the beautiful nature of the Müritz National Park. The hiking routes are designed to offer much more than just the physical challenge - deeper experiences in harmony with nature are guaranteed. The exact route can be found in the hiking map from Klemmer-Verlag, which is on a scale of 1:50,000.
