Perleberg introduces new dog tax statute: 50 % discount for dog handlers!

Perleberg, Deutschland - Perleberg has brought fresh wind into dog tax policy. The majority of the city council decided in the last meeting. It thus follows the new version of the dog owner Ordinance of the State of Brandenburg, which on 1. July 2022 came into force. These new regulations bring a decisive change: the previous racial list is abolished.

From now on, the danger of dogs is no longer found in a flat -rate breed, but individually by the local regulatory authority. This step marks a paradigm shift, since earlier racial races like the American Pitbull Terrier or Rottweiler are now a thing of the past. Dogs are considered dangerous if they show endangering properties through special training or establishment. The biting of a person or animal without a provocation has also leads to classification as dangerous.

tax relief for responsible owners

Particularly interesting for dog owners in Perleberg: Dog owners can apply for a reduction of 50 percent of dog tax in the future if their dog has successfully completed the dog handler. The corresponding tax rates remain unchanged: 40 euros for the first dog, 75 euros for the second and 100 euros for the third and every other dog. A tax of 320 euros is due for dogs that are classified as dangerous, but remains in the individually defined framework.

Such a dog license is also a topic that gains importance beyond Perleberg. The Berlin Senate also plans to abolish a racial list and instead introduce a dog license. In the future, owners could be obliged to take theoretical and practical exams in order to demonstrate knowledge of dog education and behavior. Experts see these changes long overdue and advocate putting the focus on the behavior of the animals and the responsibility of the owners instead of certain breeds that are hardly scientifically proven.

new regulations in Brandenburg

The new regulations in Brandenburg, which on 1. July 2024 come into force, replace the old dog owner regulation. Interior Minister Michael Stübgen emphasizes that the regulation is user -friendly and makes clear distinctions between general and dangerous dogs. Halter must also observe a notification and labeling obligation for your animals, which applies from the age of eight weeks and should facilitate the identification of dogs.

In summary, it can be said that Perleberg takes a step in the right direction with these changes. Even if the racial list is now history, the responsibility remains with the owners, who will have to deal more intensively in the future with the upbringing of their four -legged friends. This not only increases security, but also promoted a positive handling of dogs. A rethink that stands on the agenda in many places - not only in the Prignitz. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how these new regulations are implemented in practice and whether other cities will follow.
