The longest trabi in the world: a 13-meter-east algie spectacle in Perleberg!
A very special piece of Eastern Valley came out on the former airfield site in Perleberg last weekend: the longest Trabi in the world. This vehicle specialist over 13 meters long measures 13.11 meters and was once built in 1998 as part of a youth social project in Ludwigslust. The classic car friends Perleberg presented this extraordinary vehicle at the meeting, to which around 400 historical vehicles from different epochs came, including classics such as the VW Beetle and even wood -clad vehicles.
What a show! In bright weather, some participants camped on site from 6 a.m. and had breakfast together on the pitch. The exhibition was not only a feast for the eyes for classic car lovers, but also offered a lively partial market. Here you could secure rims, steering wheels and other rarities such as Simson parts - a real paradise for hobbyists and collectors.
from Trabi and other exhibitions
The special exhibition was entirely dedicated to the Trabant. Here the visitors saw, among other things, a converted station wagon and a Trabant 600 from 1964, which was equipped with a residential trailer. In addition, the architect and vehicle designer Jürgen Hannebauer exhibited exhibits on the history of Trabi development. The original two-stroke engine of the 1968 record trabis ensures nostalgic memories, even if its turning circle of over 41 meters severely limits the use on normal roads.
The classic car and technology museum of the Perleberger classic car friends, which has been open since May 1, 2002, complements the event. In the oldest urban gymnasium in 1896, in addition to well-restored road vehicles, there is also a self-made aircraft with a trabant engine. Here the visitors learn that the plane was once intended for an escape from the GDR. A variety of historical consumer electronics devices, such as the last RFT TV and the first tape produced in the GDR, complete the offer. The museum is open on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a deep insight into the region's car history for only 1.50 euros. There are even discounts for groups and children.
The Trabi fever in Berlin
If you want to learn more about the popular East Germans, the first Trabi Museum in Berlin is recommended. It is located near the former border crossing Checkpoint Charlie and houses impressive 18 different Trabant vehicles. From the classic Trabant P601, from which 2,818,547 copies were produced, to specially converted vehicles such as the "Ferrabi", which is inspired by the Ferrari Testarossa - the history of Trabis comes alive here. A small cinema area also shows historical films about the popular little car friend. For everyone who wants to experience the Trabi feeling up close, there is the opportunity to rent over 100 trabis or to be chauffeured by Berlin.
This shows once again that the driving pleasure and the nostalgic charm of the Trabant have not faded even decades after the turn. The classic car friends and the various museums in the region protect this story with a lot of passion and commitment - the longevity of vehicles also depends on the commitment of their owners, as the classic car friends emphasize.
