Trees for daycare centers and schools: Prignitz starts a green campaign!

Things will soon be greener again in the Prignitz district! Under the motto “For a tree-strong Prignitz”, the district is giving away deciduous trees to schools and daycare centers. The aim of this campaign is not only to beautify schoolyards and playgrounds, but also to promote climate protection and teach children about responsibility for nature. This is reported by the Northern Courier.

Each school and daycare center can request a maximum of three trees. In total, the initiative provides a budget of around 40,000 euros. The trees will be awarded in the order in which the emails are received, which must be received by the Prignitz district by July 11th. The prerequisites for participation are a suitable location for the trees and an email with the name, address of the facility, contact person and the desired number of trees.

Native tree species in focus

The focus is on native, site-appropriate deciduous trees and tall fruit trees. Planting is planned for the fall and should be completed by April 30th. The district takes care of the selection of a specialist company, the plants and the financing of this environmentally friendly initiative. The funds come from compensation payments for replacement plantings that have not been implemented in accordance with the Prignitz tree protection regulations.

Similar measures have already been carried out in the past, which shows that the topic of tree planting is very popular here. The commitment to sustainable tree sponsorships has also gained momentum in other regions. A large number of projects in Germany and Austria aim to plant trees and thus make a contribution to climate protection, for example the tree sponsorship at Lake Wolfgangsee in Austria or tree sponsorships in cities such as Coswig and Berlin, like the website baumretter.de documented in detail.

A part of the bigger picture

The tree planting campaigns not only represent local initiatives, but are also part of a comprehensive approach to combat climate change. Many regions suffer from tree death due to drought. Trees that are well adapted to the changing climate are therefore preferably chosen for the planting campaigns in order to offer the animals a protected space. Information about these practices can also be found at HNU Berlin, which, for example, also promote the cultivation of hornbeams and maple trees.

With this campaign, the Prignitz district shows that it is not just about beautifying landscapes, but also about fundamental values such as environmental protection and education. If everyone pulls together, we can continue to shape and preserve nature sustainably in the future. Get involved and support the initiative for a “tree-strong Prignitz”!
