Steinmeier lends the order of merit: Neuruppin in the spotlight!

Neuruppin, Deutschland - The striking visit by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Neuruppin did waves in the region. From July 1 to 3, 2025, he moved his official residence to the charming city in Ostprignitz-Ruppin to get in touch with people, institutions and facilities. The occasion was more than just a formal visit: Steinmeier wanted to take the opportunity to chat with the citizens: to chat inside and to experience their perspectives. On July 3, 2025, a special ceremony took place in the Kulturkirche Neuruppin, in which Steinmeier honored seven personalities with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. These not only encounter goodwill in neuruppin: Almut and Karl-Heinz Götz have been active in cultural work for 50 years, while Gabriele Lettow has already received several awards for their commitment to monument preservation. The other honored also make remarkable contributions to the promotion of children and adolescents, the support of older people, integration work and the preservation of the cultural heritage.

The Federal President used the time not only for honors, but also to get a comprehensive impression on site. For example, he attended a company for automation systems and the canoe club, where he exchanged with committed members. "Here in Neuruppin you can tell that people care about their city," said Steinmeier in one of his final speeches.

At the Brandenburg Medical School, the President even practiced the intubation of a patient in a simulator - here one can speak of an intensive and educational stay. Talks with students about their study experiences rounded off the program and opened insights into the challenges and opportunities of the generation of young people.

The festive advertisement of the Order of Merit in the Kulturkirche was the highlight of the stay. It was not only an honor, but also thanks to everyone who campaigns for the common good in the region. "People are the heart of a lively society," says Steinmeier, who with his "local time" a direct line to the citizens: built inside.
