Neuruppin launches care initiative: Together against loneliness!

Something is happening in the area of care in Neuruppin! An important project is being launched under the “On-Site Care” funding program to support people with disabilities. The aim is to strengthen social participation and effectively combat loneliness. The city of Neuruppin, in collaboration with the State Office for Social Affairs and Welfare (LASV), is launching many exciting offers that are intended to benefit its citizens. Neuruppin.de reports on the first projects that have been implemented during the corona pandemic since 2021, despite difficult conditions such as canceled information events.

A whole package of support offers is available. The new position for project coordination has been set up in the crumb box since March 2025. The experienced project coordinator Dirk Becker offers personal advice, for example when filling out housing benefit applications. Citizens can also benefit from a newly equipped sports room in which, among other things, ballet mirrors will be installed.

Diverse offers and courses

The crumb box is now a center for many initiatives. Weekly therapeutic gymnastics courses are offered here and you can start at any time. The “Fontane” and “Schinkel” consultation rooms are also available for individual consultations. The city of Neuruppin has also expanded its cooperation with the Ruppin-Brandenburg University Hospital (ukrb).

But that's not all! Regular events in the seniors' residence such as “Just sing along” or “Speaking is difficult” support those affected in a communicative way. The House of Encounters offers a wide range of courses, from chair yoga to healthy eating and art to combat osteoarthritis. Thanks to Volkssolidarität e.V., 147 citizens can regularly take part in the exercise program “Together in Motion – Mobility in Old Age”, which serves to prevent falls.

The 14-day “Walk through Neuruppin” offer invites everyone interested to explore the city together - the meeting point is at the Haus der Treffen. And the Café DINA/DiDi, run by the ESTAruppin association, which has established itself as an ideal place for getting together, ensures social exchange. Here, seniors and people with disabilities have the opportunity to exchange ideas and make new contacts.

Volunteer support welcome

An important aspect of this initiative is volunteering. Dirk Becker provides information about the opportunities to volunteer. According to a survey, 92 percent of those surveyed are generally willing to participate in various areas - be it shopping, leisure activities or accompanying people to doctor's appointments. This shows that there is a great interest among the population in volunteer work in order to help others and at the same time enrich their own lives. Also AOK highlights that 76 percent can imagine living in mixed living arrangements to provide mutual support.

The importance of caring communities, as described by the “Volunteering and Self-Help” department of the Federal Ministry of Health describes, cannot be overestimated. As the number of people in need of care increases, so does the need for volunteers and trained nursing staff. Commitment in the neighborhood makes an invaluable contribution to care provision and can help affected people to remain in their familiar surroundings.

The contact information for Dirk Becker and Ms. Benita Mennong is available for anyone who is interested in the offers or volunteer positions. Let's build a strong network of support and encounters together in Neuruppin!
