Union Berlin U23 gets off to a brilliant start with a 4-1 win against Hohen Neuendorf!

Today, September 2nd, 2025, the U23 women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin made a spectacular start to the new season of the Regionalliga Nordost. In the first game of the season, the Union team beat Blau-Weiss Hohen Neuendorf 4-1 in the stadium in front of 251 spectators.

The encounter began with a strong performance from Union Berlin. Already in the 9th minute it was striker Okoro who put the ball into the net and gave the team an early lead. But the joy didn't last long, as just two minutes later Krauss equalized for Hohen Neuendorf. However, this action did not seem to upset the Unioners. They quickly took control of the game again and were able to make it 2-1 through Reichenbach in the 19th minute and 3-1 in the 29th minute. Before half-time, Steiner went one better and made it 4-1 in the 41st minute, which marked the half-time score. A convincing start that leaves fans wanting more.

Advancement and new challenges

The U23 women earned a place in the Regionalliga Nordost last season thanks to their excellent performances in the Berlin League. The team finished with excellent goal differences in each of the last three seasons: +108 in 21/22, +173 in 22/23 and +159 in 23/24, which underlines the dominance of the players. This highlights the sporting ambitions of the Union women and shows that they are ready to gain a foothold in the new league.

This season they benefit from a new player: 19-year-old Pia Ortner comes from FC Viktoria and will strengthen the midfield. Even though the squad currently consists of 17 players, there have been some departures. Julia Marinowski is moving to FC Internationale, while other players such as Ailyn Krüger and Laila Mewes are still without a new club. The experienced Josephine Ahlswede will remain with the team.

New venue and challenges

The team, which was champion three times in both the league and the cup, plans to play its home games at the TZO in Bruno-Bürgel-Weg. Dörpfeldstrasse is unlikely to be used, even if there is no official notification from Union yet. The players will face many of the same opponents this season as they did last season for the women's first team, which promises to be some exciting duels.

With a successful start it is clear: the 2nd women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin has great potential and shows that they can also compete in the Regionalliga Nordost with tough competition and a strong performance. The fans can look forward to seeing how the still young season will develop and what further successes the team can still celebrate.

For the U23 women of 1. FC Union Berlin, this could be just the beginning of a promising journey into a new sporting dimension. So let's stay tuned and be surprised at what the next games bring!
