Rescue alert for Wittstock: District administrator is fighting for new doctors in the MVZ!
The district administrator of Neuruppin, Ralf Reinhardt (SPD), has contacted Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke with an urgent request. In a letter that addresses concerns about health care in Ostprignitz-Ruppin, he makes it clear that, in particular, the creation of new doctor's offices in the planned medical care center (MVZ) in the old cloth factory in Wittstock is still unclear. This is reported by the Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung.
A shortage of doctors is also a major issue in the region. The Ministry of Health has suggested sharing two existing medical centers for cardiology and gastroenterology in Neuruppin with Wittstock. But Reinhardt waves this off: The cardiology practice in Neuruppin is already overloaded, which means that over 30% of patients are treated outside the budget without the costs being borne by the health insurance companies.
Demands for additional statutory health insurance doctor seats
In order to close the gap in care, Reinhardt is calling for an additional registered doctor's office for cardiology as well as additional places for internal and gastroenterological services in Wittstock. “No new MVZ can be created without cash register seats,” he affirms. The demand for a permanent rescue helicopter in the region is also becoming louder - particularly important as the 15-minute aid deadline for transfers cannot be met more and more often, especially in view of the impending closure of the hospital in Wittstock in 2026.
The district administrator emphasizes that the operations already carried out by rescue workers in Ostprignitz-Ruppin only take place within the aid deadline in 82% of cases, while the rescue helicopters from Perleberg, Neustrelitz, Brandenburg an der Havel and Berlin are difficult to reach. This underlines the urgency of his demands.
The situation of the medical care centers
According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians The number of MVZs has increased exponentially since their introduction in 2004. In 2024, the number of MVZs run by hospitals will exceed those run by contracted doctors. This development has enjoyed increasing popularity, especially since 2016, due to new legal regulations.
There appears to be a lack of doctor's offices in the region, as the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians has found that 4.5 family doctor's offices in Wittstock are currently unoccupied. Reinhardt sees a critical situation here and calls for these seats to be filled promptly before special solutions to increase the number of doctor's seats are discussed.
The focus is on the demands and challenges of healthcare in Ostprignitz-Ruppin, and it will be exciting to see how politicians respond to the demands of those responsible.
