Commemoration in Storkow: Together for peace on Remembrance Day 2025
On Sunday, November 16, 2025, Remembrance Day will be celebrated in Storkow (Mark). This memorial event not only honors the memory of the victims of war, but also a reminder for peace and justice. As the City of Storkow (Mark) reported, there are numerous program items on the agenda this year that involve both local and military representatives.
The memorial series starts at 1:00 p.m. at the municipal cemetery on Reichenwalder Straße. The trombone choir will introduce the event musically. Lieutenant Colonel Grundtner will then give a speech, followed by further music and a memorial service by Ludwig Scheetz, member of the state parliament. Another musical accent is set with the piece “The Good Comrade” before the wreath-laying ceremony begins.
Commemoration in different places
At 1:30 p.m. we continue to the Soviet military cemetery on Fürstenwalder Straße. There, Mayor Cornelia Schulze-Ludwig will address a few words to those present, followed by a silent wreath-laying ceremony. The next stop is the market square at the Friedenseiche, where Pastor Robert Parr will give a speech at 2 p.m. before a wreath is laid here too.
The culmination of the memorial event will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Kurmark barracks, where registration is required. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place here at the memorial stone of the railway pioneers, accompanied by a speech by the deputy commander, Lieutenant Colonel Breitkopf. All residents are warmly invited to take part in these ceremonies and join in the shared remembrance.
Insight into the meaning of Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day has a long tradition that dates back to the period after the First World War. Originally intended as a day to commemorate those who fell in the two world wars, it has been celebrated as a legal memorial day in Germany since 1952. The MDR stresses that this day represents more than ever a reminder for peace and the rejection of violence. Particularly this year, as we commemorate 80 years since the end of the Second World War, Remembrance Day takes on special significance.
The commemorative events are not only a sign of remembrance, but also of hope for a peaceful future. This generation of contemporary witnesses will perhaps have the last opportunity to share their stories and raise awareness of the horrors of war. The dead soldiers will not be forgotten and it is important that we continue to advocate for peace and understanding.
