Parking permit panic in Babelsberg: How to avoid the ticket!

Even in Babelsberg, where life is vibrant and the streets are often full, the impending introduction of resident parking zones is causing some confusion. From June 30th, new parking permit regulations will come into force in parts of Babelsberg to regulate parking for residents. This is reported by the Daily Mirror. First of all, one thing is certain: Parking permits must be applied for online, but only after the relevant street signs have been put up. A small hurdle for all residents!

Important information for everyone affected: Only one vehicle can be registered per person. Parking permits must be booked online before collection and will not be available until July 8th at the earliest. However, it is now unclear how the city will take action against illegal parking during the transition period, as there are reports of possible tickets if you park without a permit.

Parking permits and applications – what should you bear in mind?

In order to apply for a resident parking permit, some documents must be presented. These include, among other things, an identity card, the registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document) and proof of a valid general inspection. If you are not the owner of the vehicle, you will also need a confirmation of use including a copy of the vehicle owner's ID. Anyone who has already used a resident parking permit must also have this with them in case the application details or license plates have changed. If you want to manage the whole thing conveniently via a third person, you need a power of attorney and ID of the authorized representative. The pick-up details are also important, because one day after submitting the application, the ID cards can be picked up during opening hours at the Citizens Service Center, Yorckstraße 22.

There are also some differences in the fee structure. A resident parking permit costs:

  • 30,00 Euro für 1 Jahr
  • 55,00 Euro für 2 Jahre
  • 15,00 Euro für 1 Jahr mit Schwerbehindertenausweis
  • 25,00 Euro für 2 Jahre mit Schwerbehindertenausweis

In addition, there are also seasonal parking fees that apply in a different parking area, approximately from May 1st to September 15th.

Fines and regulations

Not everyone agrees with the new regulations. Anyone who parks without a valid parking permit will face fines. As the Fine information reported, there are staggered penalties:

Duration without a parking permit fine
Up to 30 minutes 20€
Up to 1 hour 25€
Up to 2 hours 30€
Up to 3 hours 35€
More than 3 hours 40€

The introduction of the new residential parking zones is a step that has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it should ensure less chaos on the streets, but on the other hand, there is the challenge of completing all the formalities correctly in order to avoid penalties. and while the city is entrusted with these new regulations, there are also political movements: Severin Fischer is proposed as the SPD candidate for the upcoming elections on September 21st.

The first few months after the parking permit system is introduced could be crucial in finding out how well these new regulations will work in practice. Good luck to those who have a good hand when it comes to applications and parking spaces!
