Volunteers dig for treasures: Archaeologists' Day in Teltow-Fläming!
On December 22, 2025, a special event will be celebrated in our region: Archaeologist Day. This event not only offers exciting insights into the world of monument conservation, but also an excellent opportunity for anyone interested to exchange ideas about archaeological finds and their significance. The Lower Monument Protection Authority and various book stands with literature on archeology and history will also be represented, such as Teltow-Fläming reported.
The event opens its doors at 9:45 a.m. and the day begins with greetings followed by specialist lectures. Below, at 10:30 a.m., Bianca Piper offers an insight into “Finds along a route south of Jüterbog” and Frank Georgi provides information about the path from discovery to reconstruction. After a lunch break, the afternoon program begins with Nicola Hensel, who presents exciting probe excavations in the former Dahlewitz estate.
Committed people from the region to Bavaria
Voluntary involvement in the area of monument preservation has a long tradition, not only here but also in Bavaria, as on the site blfd.bayern becomes clear. There, private individuals, local historians and associations actively contribute to the recording and preservation of the archaeological heritage. In Bavaria, volunteers receive support from experts from the state office who help them network with institutions such as universities and museums.
This type of commitment is also very important to us. Over 30 people are already actively supporting archaeological monument preservation in the region. On Archaeology Day you have the opportunity to exchange ideas with like-minded people and share your experiences. An additional meeting of the volunteer representatives for monument preservation will take place from around 2:30 p.m.
Volunteer Archehumans
These volunteers are not only passionate, they also act as important intermediaries between the official monument conservation authorities and the population. Your tasks are diverse: from field work and documenting finds to public relations through lectures and publications. The LVR Office for Archaeological Monument Preservation offers them support and training so that they can carry out their tasks effectively and informatively.
The aim of everyone involved is to anchor the archaeological heritage in the population and this is exactly where the Archaeological Day comes into play. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. and entry is free. Anyone who would like to learn more about the exciting world of archeology should not miss this opportunity.
Through involvement and networking, we strengthen our community and awareness of the significant historical treasures our region holds.
