Commuters in Bestensee demand RE2 stop: Future of the connection uncertain!
Something is happening in Bestensee! The residents are pulling together and demanding a stop for the RE2 regional express that could get them to their jobs in Berlin, Königs Wusterhausen or Wildau more quickly. A petition was submitted on October 15th that has already collected over 2,400 signatures, showing great support among the population. The Green politician Andrea Lübcke is particularly pressing for the necessity of this stop: “Bestensee needs the RE2 stop – and earlier than 2028,” said Lübcke, who is actively committed to the concerns of citizens. moz.de
After all, Bestensee has around 9,200 residents, and the citizens' mobility needs are clearly a priority. They are often dependent on the regional trains on the Senftenberg-Berlin line, which run once an hour, but this frequency does not meet the requirements. Lübcke emphasizes that the issue of rail connections is of great importance not only for commuters, but also for schoolchildren and students, as reliable and fast access to public transport is essential. “A train stop is an important location factor,” she adds. andrea-luebcke.de
Additional stops and construction work
The current construction work in Königs Wusterhausen gives rise to hope for a reconstruction of the transport infrastructure, but Transport Minister Detlef Tabbert has soberly stated that an additional stop for the RE2 in Bestensee will only be possible after its completion, i.e. not until 2028. However, this is too late for commuters! Andrea Lübcke therefore suggests introducing a test phase for an RE2 stop during the construction phase between the end of 2026 and the end of 2027.
Samuel Neustupny, the initiator of the petition, points out that the RE2 stops in many smaller towns such as Raddusch, Brand or Kunersdorf with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. “It’s hard to see why Bestensee, a community with over 9,000 people, shouldn’t also be able to enjoy a stop,” said Neustupny. It appears that there is still a lot of untapped potential here that could be better exploited by the local economy and commuter community.
Conversations to improve mobility
In addition, the support of Mayor Roland Holm and the local economy is clear, who are also campaigning for better transport connections. At a recent meeting with Andrea Lübcke and Neustupny, the urgency of a timely RE2 stop was emphasized. During the expansion phase of the Lübbenau–Cottbus route, this would be entirely conceivable due to the changes in traffic flow and infrastructure. “We have to respond smarter and faster to the needs of citizens,” says Lübcke, who also wants to try to continue discussions at the district level as well as with state and federal authorities. employment agency.de
The commuter numbers in Brandenburg clearly show that many people commute regularly between home and work - a total of 13.9 million employees work in another district. A RE2 stop in Bestensee could not only increase the quality of life of the people of Bestensee, but also make commuter flows more efficient.
