New shine for Werneuchen: Alte Hirschfelder Straße now opened!

Werneuchen, Deutschland - The "Alte Hirschfelder Straße" in Werneuchen shines in new splendor after more than a year of intensive construction. On July 23, 2025, the ceremonial opening took place, in which Mayor Hildebrand, Stadtwerke managing director Riep and representative of the construction company Berger Bau SE were honored. Together they celebrated the successful conclusion of one of the most important infrastructure projects in the city, which is a real upgrading for the transport infrastructure. The road has an impressive length of around 1,000 meters and was designed for the special needs of commercial heavy goods traffic.

The project, which was realized by the city of Werneuchen in cooperation with the Hirsch engineering office from Neuruppin, not only includes the fundamental renewal of the road. A newly created walking and cycle path was also opened, which is intended to significantly improve security for cyclists and pedestrians. The asphalt of the road with a width of 6.5 meters ensures that the flow of traffic remains optimal. To the delight of the nature lovers, compensatory plantings by Uckermark Grün GmbH also took place. The overall project was at the expense of around 1.5 million euros, with funding from various programs, including in the amount of 234,000 euros by the State Road Systems Brandenburg.

At the same time, the Werneuchen bike path - Hirschfelde was officially inaugurated, which was previously opened on April 3, 2018. This paved path runs from the old Hirschfelder Straße to the Hirschfelde area and is about 1,000 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The special thing is that the bike path flows into an old sand path that is also used for agriculture. Pollers found their place for additional security at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the path.

Another highlight is the planned planting of 85 fruit trees as part of the project, which includes a total of 1,900 trees. This measure should not only upgrade the landscape, but also contribute to biodiversity. With total costs of around 580,000 euros, the city of Werneuchen was involved with a share of 25%, while co-financing from leader/elder and state funds in the amount of 391,000 euros supported.

The context of financial support that many German infrastructure projects receives is particularly interesting. As part of the EU traffic promotion program "Connecting Europe Facility", 135 projects throughout Germany benefit from a total of 5.4 billion euros. These programs aim to create a sustainable, safe and efficient network for traffic in Europe. Among other things, measures to improve rail transport and modernize port infrastructures that contribute to strengthening the German traffic infrastructure are among the funded projects.

All of these developments in Werneuchen show that the transport infrastructure is working hard here. The new roads and paths not only make commuting easier, but also ensure that all road users get to the destination safely.
