Petition started: residents defend themselves against aircraft noise on BER!

Eberswalde, Deutschland - The residents of the municipalities of Schulzendorf, Eichwalde and Zeuthen are facing a strong sign against aircraft noise at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The petition, which was started against the loud and deep aircraft, finds more and more support. 482 signatures have already been collected by Monday evening, which underlines the urgency of the topic. MOZ.de that is required in the petition so that the aircraft is and should start quieter to reduce noise pollution.

The current starting process, known as the "Intersection Take Off", leads to a deep flying and thus louder flight. Residents complain about the noise pollution that has a critical effect on the quality of life. Mayor Jörg Jenoch, as chairman of the "Schönfeld Airport Airport,", sees an urgent need for action. He not only criticizes noise development, but also that the responsible authorities shy away from taking responsibility.

flight noise measurements and health risks

The noise measurements on June 14, 2025 prove the extent of the problem: Iberia IB1802, which was withdrawn from the middle of the runway, recorded 73.6 decibels at a height of 910 meters, while the Turkish Airlines TK 1730, which started from the beginning of the runway, only produced 72.3 decibels at 1100 meters. These figures show that start operations from the middle of the train cause louder noises, which makes the situation even more unbearable for the residents.

The health consequences of such noise exposure should not be underestimated. According to a study published in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology, residents of airports are exposed to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and sleep disorders. These findings underline the need for a rigorous night flight ban, especially in times of high sleep sensitivity. Big flight noise demands appropriate measures from the legislator.

The pressure on politics increases

The petition, which is aimed directly at the Brandenburg state parliament, not only aims at minimizing the "Intersection Take Offs". It is required that the state government is actively committed to the normalization of starts from the beginning of the runway. The negative effects of aircraft noise become particularly stronger in the night, which heats up the demands for a clear state responsibility to reduce noise. The Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Administrative Court have repeatedly emphasized the state obligation to reduce noise and are calling for the corresponding measures.

A proposal for reducing the noise provides for locking ups to block the aircraft in order to bring the aircraft over inhabited areas. A significant reduction in noise pollution for the residents could be achieved. However, the airport itself defends the practice of the "Intersection Take Offs" and describes them as internationally common. Such starts make up only a small part of the flight movements.

For more than 300,000 people who live near airports, aircraft noise is a real problem. Mayor Jenoch describes the airport as "bad neighbors" and is concerned about the health and well -being of the residents. Finally, over 7000 signatures against a possible shift of the Hoffmann curve were collected, which further strengthens the last submitted claims.

The coming weeks will be crucial to see whether the pressure of the citizens and the scientific knowledge will lead to a rethink among those responsible. The residents in Brandenburg stay on the ball and actively get involved in their interests.
