Bernau celebrates: Over 1,200 hikers at the Hiking Hero Marathon!

On Saturday morning, June 30, 2025, the SCC Hiking Hero-Wander-Marathon was held for the third time. An incredible experience for over 1,200 participants who faced the challenge of 44.5 kilometers through the enchanting landscape of Barnim. The starting sign was in the city park at 7:30 a.m., and the hikers made their way through various towns such as Rüdnitz, Temelfeld, Schönfeld, Werneuchen, Löhme and Börnicke before returning to Bernau. Bernau live reported that the event was deliberately not competitive, but as a community experience in which the discovering of the region is in the foreground.

The participants who competed both alone and in the team or in the club came from a wide variety of age groups and professional fields. This underlines the integrative concept of the "Hiking Hero". Numerous refreshments were set up along the picturesque route, which were supervised by local associations and fire brigade members. Here the hikers were able to fortify themselves with refreshments, snacks, fruit, drinks and even cakes to master the rest of the route.

The home stretch was in the city center, in Bernauer Bürgereisterstraße, where the participants were rewarded with a finisher certificate, a medal and a non-alcoholic beer. After the hike ended, the exhausted people on the market square could relax with delicious dishes and refreshing drinks. Here was celebrated vigorously and stories were exchanged over the route covered. Barnim Aktuell mentioned that the first event of the Hiking Hero took place in September 2023 and the big rush to this event led to its integral part in the Bernau event calendar.

The organizers of SCC Events, which also carry out large sporting events such as the Berlin Marathon, have given everything to make the "Hiking Hero" an unforgettable experience this year. In April, the cooperation with the city of Bernau was agreed, which made preparations for this year's marathon considerably easier.

Thanks to the excellent connection in Bernaus, which attracts visitors from near and far, the event is always very popular. The hikers were cordially invited to enjoy the route along the historic town hall and to network with the inhabitants. Not only the landscape, but also the cooperation became a matter of hiking hero, which counts here for all participants.
