Spremberg Christmas: Lights, music and the peace light illuminate the city!
Last weekend, Spremberg shone in the glittering sea of lights of “Spremberger Christmas”. The city attracted numerous visitors with attractive events and a festive atmosphere. A highlight was the Living Advent Calendar, which could be experienced at the Bismarck Tower and opened its doors on December 20th. Here, young and old could enjoy Advent music together while looking at the city from above. Numerous culinary delicacies were also recorded - from mulled wine and bratwurst to lentils and marshmallows around the campfire. This festive start was accompanied by musical performances by “Micha” and Reiner Cornelsen, which created the right atmosphere. The event was organized by the city of Spremberg/Grodk in collaboration with the event location catering service “Schilfhütte” and “Kultursonntag”. Another attraction was the “Courtyard of 100 Lights” in the Vinothek Dresdener Straße 32, where homemade mulled wine and snacks were offered.
But the festive atmosphere wasn't just reserved for culinary delights. The Peace Light from Bethlehem, known for its symbolic power for friendship and community, also reached Spremberg. It was received in the late afternoon of December 20th and is part of a tradition started by Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) since 1986. Every year the light is lit at the Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem and carried to many countries to spread the Christmas message of peace. This year's campaign has the motto “A Spark of Courage,” which symbolizes the hope for peace and understanding among all peoples. Visitors are invited to bring suitable candles to transport the Peace Light to carry the warm glow home.
A musical celebration and contemplative hours
The musical supporting program of the “Spremberg Christmas” also included the 23rd annual concert of the “Trachtenkapelle Spremberg” music association, which took place on December 21st in the Kreuzkirche. The musicians enchanted their listeners with a varied program - from evergreens to film and musical melodies to classic Christmas songs. The weekend was rounded off with the 21st door of the Living Advent Calendar and the traditional tower music from the town hall tower, which perfectly rounded off the festive atmosphere.
The celebrations will last until January 6, 2026, with various events such as Advent calendars, Christmas vespers and church services. “Spremberg Christmas” offers a colorful range of activities that are suitable for both children and adults and strengthen the community in the run-up to Christmas.
Together for peace and hope
For everyone who would like to learn more about the Peace Light, the campaign is a beautiful symbol of hope and community. It reminds us that peace is not a magical sign, but a constant process that begins in the hearts of all people. The volunteers of AG Friedenslicht are committed to ensuring that light is made available to “all people of good will” in Germany. The campaign receives support from a large number of scout organizations who eagerly transport the light.
With the invitation to take the Peace Light with you, each individual is encouraged to become part of this wonderful tradition. An information flyer and current information are available on the websites of the participating organizations, including on social media, where insights and news are regularly shared under the hashtag #friedenslicht. A beautiful occasion to gather with loved ones and pass on the spark of hope.
