Local festival in Spremberg: 35,000 visitors celebrate safely and happily!
Spremberg, the idyllic town in the Spree-Neiße district, is currently shining in festive splendor. From August 10th to 12th, 2025, the city will celebrate one of the largest folk festivals in southern Brandenburg - the Heimatfest. Around 30,000 to 35,000 visitors are expected by the end of the festival, and the anticipation is palpable, even if the reason for increased security precautions cannot be overlooked. rbb24 reports that the festival opened on Friday at 5 p.m. with a colorful parade of historical figures.
The security measures are at the highest level. In view of the frightening incidents in other cities, such as the attack in Solingen or the incidents in Munich and Magdeburg, extensive precautions are in place. [Tagesspiegel](https://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/volksfest-spremberg-sicher-volksfest-TEN Thousands of Visitors-Erwartet-14146577.html) highlights that access roads have been partially blocked by buses and the number of security forces has been increased. Daily briefings between the police, public order office and security services are intended to ensure a safe festival.
A celebration for everyone
The highlight of the local festival has already been determined: a spectacular 20-minute laser show with fireworks and musical accompaniment will enchant the numerous spectators at the Schwanenteich on Saturday evening from 10 p.m. It is expected that 12,000 to 14,000 visitors would like to experience this impressive production. Sunday becomes a family day and offers numerous attractions for young and old.
Mayor Christine Herntier (independent) not only steered the preparations for the festival, but also vehemently addressed the issue of right-wing extremism. In an incendiary letter she pointed out the growing danger in Spremberg and called for solidarity and vigilance. Deputy Mayor Frank Kulik (independent) also expressed concern about the current situation in the city.
Safety as the top priority
In a larger context, Spremberg's approach to security is not alone. rnd.de reports that after the recent incidents in Solingen and other German cities, many folk festivals are revising or strengthening their security concepts. For example, additional entry controls were introduced at the Oktoberfest in Munich, while knife sales bans and increased controls were ordered at several other events. It is therefore a challenge for society as a whole to harmoniously combine fun and safety at the end of the day.
Spremberg, with its 22,000 inhabitants, shows that the local festival is not only a celebration for the region, but also an important platform for social discussions. The interplay between celebratory mood and vigilance challenges everyone involved. At the festival you find prejudices and fears that need to be overcome, and so it becomes clear: it is celebrated, but always with a keen eye.
