Shape the future: Looking for ideas for democracy in the district!
On July 7, 2025, an exciting call for creative project ideas that strengthen democratic coexistence was launched in the district. The Partnership for Democracy is particularly looking for ideas in which young people take responsibility. Projects are supported that can receive funding of up to 90%. The focus is particularly on initiatives that fight against extremism, racism and discrimination or promote intercultural encounters. A wide range of actions are aimed for, from workshops to poster campaigns to democracy festivals.
Project coordinator Kathrin Lehm from the coordination and specialist office at the Lausitz Family Campus is the central contact person for those interested. Particularly for the second half of the year, project ideas are being sought that take advantage of events such as Democracy Day on September 15th or the 35th anniversary of German unity (October 3rd). But creative ideas for Smile Day or for activities around November 9th are also very welcome. Ideas can be easily submitted via email.
A strong commitment to the future
The funding of these projects is part of the federal program “Living Democracy!”, which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The program aims to strengthen democratic participation and hold society together, especially in rural regions and structurally weak areas. The application process is open to non-profit organizations, associations, initiatives and also young people. For anyone who is unsure, Kathrin Lehm will be offering telephone consultations from July 30, 2025.
But that's not all! The Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) also supports projects that deal with asylum, migration and intercultural issues, as well as those that focus on equal opportunities and social cohesion. These financial resources are available as part of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) for the period 2021-2027. Programs like “Living Democracy!” and “Cohesion through Participation” support various initiatives that are committed to combating extremism and promoting a vibrant democracy.
Variety of support options
It's not just in Brandenburg that there are numerous programs available to promote civic engagement and political education. From Baden-Württemberg to Thuringia there are local initiatives that pursue similar goals and support committed groups. The German Foundation for Commitment and Volunteering, for example, is particularly committed to projects in rural areas, while other programs such as “Tolerant Brandenburg” take targeted action against right-wing extremism.
The commitment to a strong democracy in the Klettwitz district and beyond offers many actors the opportunity to implement their ideas and actively contribute to society. And that's good business for everyone who is interested in respectful and diverse cooperation!
